Kitchen Cool

Creating the coolness:  reduce the number of chairs; add a big splash of black with the hutch to pop the light tones of the table and the parson’s chairs; replace the heavy iron light fixtures with a sophisticated drum chandelier over the table and a high-tech nickel fixture over the island;  add simple and sleek accessories.

Practical too:  provide ample seating with four chairs and a bench on the window side of the table; seal and clear coat the fumed finish Crate and Barrel table to make it truly usable, even with kids; increase storage and display space without crowding the room with a tall hutch with pane glass fronts.

Bonus:  with the cleaner lines of the furniture and the reduction in clutter, the beautiful outdoor view becomes the room’s star.
